Topic: ??? about the gears on a toyota pickup

I have a 91 toyota pickup and im going to do the sas and i was wondering if the rear axle i have right now has the same gears as the 83 front straight axle?? (i would rather not change out the rear axle is possible??)

check first, those earlier axles sometimes had some wierd gears....

ya i think they ran 4:10s and or 3:90s in the early years but you said 83 it might be 4:10, but if you do a sas then you will want tires on it right so you will have to change the gears anyway so 5:29's

i have an 83 front axle on my 79. the 83  code said it was a G292 so that's a 4:10 ratio. now the  code for my 79 indicated it had a 4:37 ratio. but i got lucky and someone had already changed it to a 4:10.  on an old truck you can't be sure until you check it yourself. and i think the codes for these old trucks are in the engine compartment. have fun!!
