V-6 third and axle shafts
« on: Oct 01, 2007, 01:24:50 PM »
Is the v-6 thirds stronger than 4cyl? What about the axle shafts? And can you use the axle shafts with the 4cyl (leaf sprung) ifs drums?

All IFS trucks have the larger rear brakes.  The axles are no stronger than a 4cyl rear, but the third had larger bearings, and the third member itself is more rigid.

the 4cyl shafts will slide into the v6 3rd and the v6 ifs rear end shafts will slide into the 4cyl 3rds. the 4cyl shafts will not slide into the ifs rear end because there to short. there all 30 spline though.

I think you mean 4cyl SFA rear axles won't fit in any IFS rear axle housing...they did make IFS 4cylinders. :gap:

I have a 1993 runner v-6 complete axle. I then got a 1987 ifs rear axle complete. The runner axle housing is coil and the 87 is leaf spring. The 93 brakes are differant (ebrake) so I thought i could put the v-6 shafts on the 87 ifs drums and run the v-6 third. I figured since it was v-6 it has more torque and hp than a 4cyl so therefore they would be stronger.
