Recommendation for front shackle lift?
« on: Sep 20, 2007, 10:56:02 PM »
I have 63" chevies in the rear of my 85 4runner and I have a slight "stink bug" raked stance.  I need about an extra inch or two of lift in my front to level me out.

Would you guy recommend a slightly longer front shackle to replace the toyota one?   I already have the Wrangler springs in the front.  Below is a pic.  Also, where would you buy them? Thanks

If you still have the stock 2" or so stock shackles, some 6" shackles looks like it would even you out. Marlin Crawler sells shackles from 4.5" to 6".

I do have the stock length shackles. I dont want to over-do it, just level it.  You recommend the 6"?

Yeah from the picture and my own past dealings with the wranglers/63s it looks like a 6" will be just right for you.

Id agree with the six inchers,
although 6 inches sounds like a lot, it only equals out to an inch or so of straight up lift.
plus you might get some more flex out of your front end with em, defiantly more droop  :)

Thanks for the recommendation.  I went with a 6" shackle.  Although now I think I need to lengthen my front driveshift, I can now just barely start to see the beginning of the splines on it.  During full flex Im OK though. Here are the results:

Cool, lookin good! If your driveshaft isnt about to fall out you will probably be fine. I had my buddy make me a square drive shaft when I did my 63s/wranglers because it only had about an inch and a half of spline before it would fall out (on flat ground). I am doing dual cases eventualy so I did not want to spend big $$ on a custom driveline only to have to have a new one made later on. You can probably find a local shop to make one out of your stock front driveline for realitivly cheap. If you arent going to do any major upgrades though you may consider spending the money on a more permanent driveline than just a square.

How many inches of spline are there on the front?

I am not sure. This was about a year ago so my memory is a little hazy and i dont have any stock DS around to measure. It just popped out when I flexed it really hard so I had him make me one.

Six inch shackles are going to screw up your Castor angle which can cause "death wobble" and they will also screw up your pinion angle which can result in d-shaft binding, especially if you only have one T-case.

I drove it home on the freeway at 70+ mph with no wobble.

I am seriously considering having the driveshaft lengthened.

looks like its settin real nice
id definetly lengthen the driveshaft, its a big upgrade though, to have a good one custom made can cost a pretty penny
