Bad Gasoline?

Ok, here's the deal.  I have a 94 22re 4wd that I am fixing up for a DD.  The fuel pump went bad I guess well it sat for the past year or so.  So I have the bed off for some other repairs so I tossed in a new pump.  Fast forward a few weeks, fuel pump craps out.  So luckily I still have the bed off and I figure I got a bad pump cause it had maybe 45 minutes of run time on it.  So fast forward a few more weeks the second new pump is junk.  I am absolutely positive I have no wiring or other electrical issues, the only thing I can think is the gas in this thing has gone bad and is ruining the pumps.  Do you guys think this is possible.  I had maybe 3-4 gallons in the tank and it left a funny white residue on the pump where is was above the fuel level, almost a powdery white corrosion.  So I'm thinking I'll drain the tank put in another new pump a start again.

 light a match and hold it close to the tank...if it doesnt do anything the gas is bad

HaHa    No really think the bad gas can ruin a fuel pump?

i know that dirt or rust in the tank could ruin a pump....

Where are you buying the pumps at? Some pumps are not worth the cardboard they come in

Here in VT we have a car parts store that specializes in japanese and euro rigs.  The pumps were both bosch pumps not some autozone junk or anything like that.  I work as an auto tech so luckily I got the first one warrantied cause I figured it was faulty but the likely hood of getting two bad pumps in a row seems very slim thats why I'm thinking the old gas is killing them.

Yes I have a sock on it, brand new.  I guess I should explain more.  When I say the pump is bad I mean it is open across the terminals, not the typical few ohms of resistance.

Gas start's to seperate after 6 month's of sitting... i'm sure you have some rust on the inside of your tank, and you prolly got some stuck in the pump. I would suggest to go to your local part's store and ask them where the Sea Foam is. Sea Foam is a product that clean's the internal's of your engine, cleans and protect's the inner walls of the gas tank, AND take's water out of the gas... try it and see what happen's

There is no rust in the tank, I have the bed off and I can pull the sending unit and look in there, no rust.   I'm thinking, which is dangerous, that the old gas is corrosive to the copper windings in the pump and causing them to open.  I am going to drain the tank before I put in the new pump and see what happens.
