Im looking for a rebuilt 22r to swap with my currect 22r in my 81 pickup.  Only rebuilt ones i could find said that they were 22rs from 85-95.  I can still swap those in an 81 with no problems right?

you can, but i wouldnt....

the engines are similar, but depending on the actual setup quite different...

i am currently working on a swap between an 85 2wd 22r motor into an 84 4x4 truck, and i ran into quite a few issues that were not expected, issues like my 85 engine not using a smog pump, issues liek the power steering pump not bolting up to the bracket small little things like that. i had to get a different power steering pump from a later model truck and cap off the vacuum assist ports as the pump was from an efi truck... lots of little things that made the swap a pain. the alternator was wired differently, but i also went from a external reg to a internal regulator....
