1983 Project engine advice

so i found a 1983 pick up with rust, but the frame and the cab front end good shape. Motor is a 22r with about 125,000 a miles, stock form and i was romp with it and having a good time but the valves are rattling and there seems to be a lttle rod noise know.


So i was think if it would be possilbe to swap a lexus v8 into this engine bay since i have seen people put chevy v8 into them.

4.0 lexus motor mated to a w-56 5 speed dual transfer case from of course marlin. Would this work or would it make it stupid fast and dangerous.

I due exploring, rock crawling and trail camping all over arizona, moab, colorado. I due not want to trailer my vechile i want it be useable. Also i would like it to climb hills and pass other cars. No trailer queens for me.

Any advice from the experts?

for ease, i would honestly swap a small block chevy or ford in instead of the lexus. i have heard they lexus is a good motor, but isnt worth the hassle of doing it. now if you want it, i wont say dont do it, i know for myself i would rather swap in a sb ford or chevy.

if you want to do it, be prepared for a lot of custom issues -- this swap has been done before, by some, it just isnt very common. you basically need the entire vehicle from which the engine came from, wiring harness, computer, all the sensors -- its more complicated than jsut hte engine, but it is doable, however, it will be more cost prohibitive either in parts or custom fabrication than one of those kits for a sbc or sbf

i'd  look for a 3RZ  but the Lexus is just a fancy Toyota

ok i due not want the comments on how much a piece of crap this truck is that i bought it is so ugly kids scream and run from it  .But the cab and the front are solid not rusty.

If it where just a trail truck would a 22r rebuild and propane be good to get me around with lockers and right gears?
