Complete frame swap
« on: Apr 26, 2004, 07:14:41 PM »
My friends wife just got side-swiped in their 86 4Runner.  The 4Runner's body was spared due to the body lift and rock rails, but the frame is bent badly.  He's wondering what frames will work under his 4Runner if he were to do a complete frame swap.

My assumptions were that the short box would be closest, since the long box trucks have a longer wheelbase than the 4Runner's.  Is this the case?

Will pre-84' pickup frames also work?

Thanks

Any frame will work its just how much work do you want to do to make it work.  It shouldnt be all that hard to find a 86-90 4runner frame just post in the wanted areas on a couple of boards Im sure at least one will pop up.  Good luck
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Ya, I guess there's not much rocket-science involved is there.  I think he's probably wanting to put a frame under his rig that has/had a solid axle already, so he doesn't have to do a SAS later on.

That is a very good idea.  His best bet would be to find a shortbed truck thats been rolled etc. and just rob it of all the goodies.  He'd be money ahead and he'd have anything he could ever need right there on the parts truck.

Size doesn't matter... yet.

i also have an 86 4runner and had thought of doing the frame swap at one time. but i know that the 84-85 short box chassis will work with little or know work involed(body to frame).
