X2  I have the spot where my AC compressor used to be open. I am thinking of putting a 1 wire GM in that spot but I am always looking for alternatives.

well  its raining so nopics today :haha:

but i used  the smog pump bracket  (80 model)to mount a 60 amp from a 80 celica GT, its 2 wire  plus the output  so  i just figured out which plug was the stimulater and wired that to a switch

so whenever i need more juice  i hit that switch and BOOM  my lights get MUCH brighter

sweet... so the smog pump goes where the AC compressor does on the 22rs?
and is it a simple bolt on app?

and what belt did you use.

smog pump is below the AC compressor on carb engines.  EFI doesn't have the smog pump, and the AC is mounted low on the block on the pass side.

yea,  my a/c  is  up high,  matter of fact  i had to use a 22R a/c bracket  because the 20R a/c bracket  kept the a/c pump too high and it rubbed the radiator hose where it came out of the thermostat

the way the second alt looks  like a  photo negative of the other side

I put in the MobiArc conversion in my ride.  I think it was $60 and it all looks/operates like stock.  NO wiring to modify.  Just a new stator.  Also put in new brushes.  This way there isn't anything that will wear out that can't be found on the shelf.
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/alternator/
Can't say enough good things about it.  90 amps suffices for my needs.

Ok, looks like I can get a Lexus SC400 100 amp alternator, used, locally here for $80.

Then I will have *potentially* a 100 amp output (maybe maybe not for it is used), I will have to fit it which means time on new brackets, and possible wiring issues.

Or I can have my stock alternator rebuilt at a shop for $160 and they claim its output will be 120 amps, and they will load test it on an amp machine before I pick it up to ensure my satisfaction.

Recently, what I've learned is that my time has become faaaaaar more valuable than I once considered it, and to be able to  just upgrade my stock part -- which they can do in 2-3 hours -- yields more time to focus and work on other more important jobs that I need to do to my truck.

So looks like it will be a modified stock alternator at 120 amps for me

Thanks for all the feedback
BigMike

Mike, you asked a question on August 15th, 2007, and finally made a decision on February 5th, 2008?

From and including: Wednesday, August 15, 2007 to and including: Tuesday, February 5, 2008 it is 175 days from the start date to the end date, end date included, or 5 months, 22 days including the end date, or 15,120,000 seconds, or 252,000 minutes, or 4200 hours, or 25 weeks. Were you buying a house or making a decision on an alternator....

Time is valuable my friend....

The '91-95 MR2 turbo with power steering uses at least a 100Amp unit. it might be a 120A I can't remember. Its ONLY on the cars with power steering though. they use the electro-hydraulic setup.

find a  older 22R  or  a 20R  with the smog pump shown in the pic,  then  throw it away  and get the bracket it mounted too

thats what  you need to  mount the  alternator  from a 80-83  toyota celica

For simplicity, I think you'd be miles ahead to just stick to finding a higher output single alt than running 2, but that's just my opinion!

the a/c compressor on  later 22r's  is mounted  there,  :yesnod:  and  no  it  wont work  cause the mount is completely different
