That's crap man :headshake:

QuoteNot going to go into great detail here but suffice it to say gates are going up not just in the Eldorado National Forest. Was just kinda ironic after all that has been going on lately I ran into this today in the Tahoe National Forest.

The area is PG&E land, bordering Tahoe National Forest land. After speaking with the crew for half hour or so I found out the gate had to go up because of four wheel drive vehicles using the Dam Spillway as an OHV test track They did go on to mention how much they hated to do it and even told me a story about another area close to there. They had gated the road in the area due to over use by the jeep community but soon came to discover in his words "it was the worst thing we ever did". After the gate went up they had piles of trash being left by the hiking/day use crowd which apparently the OHV community had been packing out.

The reason for the visit today was to confirm what I had been told on the phone this morning by the Tahoe National forest. Wanted to make sure a certain road in the area was open, which after some discussion she decided it was. I took her name down just in case. After driving up to the area and seeing sign-age I'm still kinda at a loss as to whether or not the road is open for sure. She stated, if her map showed the road as a black line designated with a NF# it was open to vehicular traffic. She also stated the area was private property, PG&E land and they had no jurisdiction. I asked the question "so the Rangers have no Jurisdiction here to give tickets of any kind". She stated "you are correct sir".

I find this strange as I have seen Rangers in this area before and even seen them hand out citations. More to the point.......I don't think the Rangers know much more than the public does when it comes to property lines and or roads.

Another interesting thing came up in my discussion with the Tahoe National Forest people. Fire's. Knowing full well the restrictions going on right now in the Tahoe National forests, I asked about steel fire rings. I was informed that if the campground had steel fire rings it was okay with a permit to have a fire. In talking with the PG&E work crew installing the gate, they mentioned they had in fact installed the fire rings some years back not the Forest service. My guess would be that it is in fact NOT okay to have a fire in this remote location even though they have steel fire rings.

I will use my common sense and not have a fire but you can see how all of this adds to the publics confusion. Can I be here? Can I have a fire? She also informed me that Fordyce trail is designated with a NF# and they hadn't closed it and that CAL4Wheel had volunteered to cancel Sierra Trek. I hope she doesn't know what she is talking about in regard to Fordyce trail.

The pics are small but trust me when I say, My kids face/expression says it all!!!
