Predator Carb...infos?
« on: Jul 16, 2007, 12:24:57 PM »
I snagged a predator carb for a REAL good price, but I don't know much about em.  In any case, the reason it was cheap was cause there is a bolt near the bottom missing...stripped out.  Easy to retap, but I don't know how long the original bolt was.  Anyone got any infos or experience with these can help me out?

Thanks!  :turtle3:

I know a predator used on a V8 is primarily for racing.  I don't know much about them for 4cyl. applications.

dont get all pissed... so what..... thats why it was funny... have you ever seen a predator carb for a 4cyl toyota?

also, as it doesnt say it was for his 460, how were you able to assume it was for a 4cyl?

Are you really as dumb as you sound.  Read my initial post.  It says," I know a predator used on a V8 is primarily for racing.  I don't know much about them for 4cyl.  I acknowledged that I don't know about a 4 cyl. application.

how were you able to assume it was for a 4cyl?

This is a Toyota Forum.  The assumption is there.

Back on topic.

How many CFM is the carb (probably 650-750) and what year 460?  If it is a 460 from the mid 70's to early 80's, I don't think you will like the predator carb.  Those year 460's are detuned from pervious years due to smog issues.  IMO, an edelbrock 600-650 cfm would probably be better.

The carb is variable from 390 - 970 CFM...it is a 1979 460 so it is the 7.5 to one compression emmission pig.

Oh, and please can we stick to info and not fighting...thanks!

If you don't like that Predator carb, I still have an Edelbrock 600 cfm for sale. Tuning kit and all

390 is at the primary.  970 should be max cfm with carb completely open.  That is way too much carb.

Exactly,  Just don't take my thoughts ( I am sure you won't).  I have picked up many things like that and made money.

On a Ford of the year you are talking about, you cannot beat the original Autolite carb.  You might try rebuilding it.

Don't these work strictly on the engines demand for air and meter fuel accordingly?
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.

Yes, but the more I look at it the more I am convinced it can be "detuned" to work more effectively with a lower demand engine such as my stock 460.  They werk on a cam system that allows the engine demand to meter air/fuel up to a certain point, then the linkage forces a "secondary" type reaction that opens everything up full bore.

I just went to http://www.predatorcarb.com/performance/carburetor.html  and noticed they got a board there!  That might help out alot!  Also, they have a contact info page!

Those things are so sweet.  They have now been replaced by the "Demon" name but I think they are the same carbs.
