87 cab/bed on a 91 frame.... in4mayshin

my frames takin a on me from the cab back.... so my buddy is givin me his old truck for me to use....im takin my 87 x-cab n bed n puttin it on a 91 reg cab p/u frame...

anyone ever done it?? seen it done?? have ANY info on what all is different?

haha i think thats wat im gonna do...

ill prolly chop it right in the middle of the cab.... and use 2x4 box n make new rails... make a big crossmember/upp/lower link mounts.... and run tj front coils...

any idea on how longa links to use... im thinkin 36"... and bending the lowers for clearence...lookin for a cadillac riiiiiide haha

double or just an upper triangulation??  im thinkin double, so theres no steering...... but its a more of a PITA...

im not goin any bigger than my 36s either...

I say the 2x4 box would be plenty stout, but it may be cheaper to split that 91' frame andpatch the rear half to your 87'...hell i don't know   All this talk about fixing frames is not helping with MY decision to move back to PA this winter.  GOOD LUCK MAN

I grew up in Port Royal, PA (right between Harrisburg and State College) The humidity isn't as killer up there as here in VA Beach.  I've been in the Navy for the past 7 yrs, mostly on the West Coast (WA and CA) but i'd like to be closer to family.  They all want to see the grandkid more often.

haha its cool man.... but i need a WHOLE 2nd gen, x-cab p/u frame... rotted out or not... make a jig n copy the whole damn thing outta 2x4 box... looooota work, but i get off OVER-building stupid ...

but i figure, back of doorjamb back, new rails... n a cab exo...(tie it through the bed floor into the rails, maybe along the bed too, but ive yet to see a clean looking one to even get a hint from), should be plenty strong...the only drawback i see, is the breakin right in front of where ill be tyin it together(although ive thought hard about big oval gussets, kinda look like a ford emblem on each side of both rails)


but i dunno.... i need to make up mymind soon... i go till like  august 17th... and if Rendell dont sign the budget, us poor little pennDOT workers are out of a job.... i wont kno if i work tomorrow of not till midnight tonight... gayyyyyyyyyyy   someone PLEASE shoot him in the richard hole

well, the truck ison its last leg, she either gets a cab-back frame chop and new frame rails and a 4-link..... or i get a 91 reg cab p/u off my best friend for nothing, pull my 87 x-cab n bed off my frame, and drop it all on the reg cab chassis.... anyone ever seen it done??  perhaps know of a build??  i keep searchin here n pirate, but keep comin up empty handed....

it can be done, but they have different dody mounts, I think it could/would be done fairly easy.

thats what im thinkin, and i have access to a 2-post lift... but i cant be holdin it up for 3-4 days... i got a few spec sheets and measurements off pirate for a 2nd gen truck and a 2nd gen runner.... i dont know how diff a 3rd gen truck and a 2nd gen runner are.... buuuuuuut, i dont think their much different, since they are the same w/b.... just a runner has link n coil brackets in the rear....

Here is a link that could help you.  You may have already seen this, and I'm sure there are others.  I think it would look good on the reg. cab frame!

yot hat thread is perfect, the damn dude just never put a bed on it nor did he show what cab mounts he "welded".... im pretty sure its the front-most bed mounts, you have to cut em down and re-weld em.... im strivin to get it up here after thanksgiving... but its ifyyyy.... my car is great on gas and has NO PROBLEMS, i knoif i bring the truck back, its just gonne be a headache after headache.... plus im puttin a damn cast manifold back on it.... so i gotta change the rear main and find a stock exh manifold, then build yet ANOTHER exhaust for it....before it can go anywhere....
