Anybody else watch the NASCAR race today?  Juan Pablo Montoya lived up to his reputation as a road racer.  I was also really impressed with Jimmy Johnson, Dale Jr. and Tony Stuart.

At one point Jimmy and Juan swapped positions at least four times in one or two laps.  I don't care who the drivers were, it was an amazing stretch of driving for both of them.

One of the guys on Speed made the observation that Montoya was probably the only driver that could have won with his car today.  They leaned it out to the point of having horrible horsepower and he still managed to drive the wheels off.

I will Jeff Gordon would have had a better starting point so he could have been more of an impact.

Best race of the year!  All Hail the right hand turn!  :haha:

it was all about stratigy and track position, Robby Gordon was the class of the field, Montoya just got lucky, to his credit he did run a good race, and the race was exciting

Robby Gordon certainly put on a show, but I suspect his car was tuned for more hp compared to fuel economy which would make him look somewhat better.  Montoya, and others, ran really lean to conserve fuel at the expense of hp.  It turned out that fuel economy was the key.

Also, with Robby starting at the pole he had a much easier time than Juan starting back in 31st or Jeff starting in 41st.  Even Tony dropped way back on the first couple of corners and fought his way back up.

I think that Robby's "gold" is in the off road racing world, I have seem him do some amazing things in trucks.

I wonder if Kevin Harvick could have won if he had known that Juan wasn't going to run out of fuel.  Maybe Harvick could have pushed Juan until he did run out of gas, but I'm sure it was close for both of them.

I think Harvick was caught off guard, I just hate gas milage races, just think how exciting it would have been if all those fast guys could have been racin for the win with 10 to go
