made some front spring packs
« on: Jun 19, 2007, 07:53:13 PM »
What do y'all think?
I took the first two leafs from a rear pack and cut them down to size.  Mixed them in, and tossed the big ole helper spring that was on there.  I bet those were some stiff ridin' rascals.

I took these as a "before and after". Before I started the 2nd one, after I finished the 1st one. :gap:

looks good

would  be better  if  we  saw  the  hole spring

but i assume  you pulled  the top two  leaves  from the rear pack  and used  them  so to  push  your front axle forward

you know  you cant  use the  stock steering now right???

no glen, he's using stock front main and 2nd leaf, adding cut down rears below those.  And flipping the ball.

What he said.

First 2 are stock fronts.
Next is rear main cut to length.
Next is front 3rd leaf
Next is Rear 2nd cut to length.
Last one is another piece of the 2nd rear cut to 13 inches and drilled.

I was thinking about one more smaller leaf (7-8 inches) on the bottom.

Spring clampp them things!

Looks like that will work.  Very similar to mine.

Now the problems i have with mine.

Like yours, The clamps only catch the top 4 springs, allowing the bottom 2 to go any which way but loose.  (:D)  You need to get a clamp in catch all of those springs.

BTW, if you do, let me know what you come up with as I will be tackling that soon too.

Eh I don't think it'll be an issue, I've built a few junkyard springs and never had an issue with them trying to spread. The ubolts won't let them go very far anyways.

I thought the same thing, but I found out on the last MCR trip that my bottom leaf will fan just far enough to catch the gas tank skid plate :stopit:

Does anyone know where you can get spring clamps? Can you buy them over the counter at local part stores, or do you have to special order them?

use a piece of thin steel, bent and *tack* welded to the spring, with a bolt thru the top.

next time add  another leaf

a LONG  leaf  from  a 2wd F150  would give you the perfect lift

oh yea  you need  shock hoops,    me too
