I am leading a run up Mt Blanca 4wd trail over the weekend of June 29th in southern Colorado. I'll be driving my 84 Extended Cab pickup and joined by the Tow Vehicle list moderator Ryan Eklund in his white pickup. If you're interested in joining us, shoot me a reply post.

Mt Blanca trail, for those of you who are not in the southwest, is considered to be the "worst" road in the entire state. Yeah there are hardcore trails elsewhere in the state that are bad, but this is still considered to be a 'road' as opposed to a 4wd 'trail.'

I did it back in 98 in my FJ40 with open diffs and 33's, but now with 37's and dual lockers, it's a great time! Camping at the top of the road at Lake Como at 12,500 feet - and yes, the snow is all melted off from this past winter.

I'll post a link of pictures after we get back.

Let me know how that trip goes for you guys!  I'm scheduled to run Blanca July 14-15 with my 4wheel drive club.  We were worried about snow levels up there.

Are you from the southern CO area?  I'm in Pueblo!

Thanks and have a good trip  :beerchug:

Cool!  Have a good trip and definally post up the pics after!  You should try and hit up Zapata Falls and the Sand Dunes while in the area.

Here's a little info about the trail for others that aren't familar with Blanca

Got back with no problems from our trip to Mt Blanca. There was one big snow drift at the top of the trail (past Jaws IV) that the first vehicle needed to winch up, but we were able to make it to the top of the road. Jaws III is a joke this year, it's easier than the bypass. Pics on the way...

Thanks for the trip report and pictures iortechnology!  That's too bad about Jaws 3, that used to be the toughest spot on that trail.  Looks nice and green up there.  Do you have any more pictures of your truck, you've got a nice rig  :beerchug:

How far of a drive is it from Albuquerque?  Was it worth the drive?

Thanks again for the report.

It's 4 hours from Albuquerque - well worth the drive. My wife and I try to get up to the trail each summer.

I'll post a few more pictures tonight of the truck for you...

That's not too bad of a drive.  From Pueblo, it's probably 2.5-3 hours.

A few pictures of the truck. It's an 84 extended cab on 37's, dual cases with the rear one geared, 22RE motor, and an AC system that never seems to work for my wife...

And then of the back of this truck - what most people see when they're stuck and I'm pulling them out!
