Three birfields in a week

The first birfield I broke was the stock one from an '84.  I had to continue to drive on it to get out of the hole, and it tore things up pretty good.  When I tore everything apart I found a silver washer like thing in the pumpkin.  I couldn't find where it went so I slapped everything back together with a new profield.  Within the day the inner race broke ruining the rest of the part.  The next day I installed another profield.  Within a week it bombed on a difficult trail.  Are my birfields breaking because of the silver ring not being installed?  Or should I just have gone with Marlin over allpro in the beginning? :)  I'll be getting a Bellfield when they get restocked, but I'd just as soon not do another trail side repair if I just need to replace that washer.

Profields are pieces of :pokinit:!!

"Ringless" Longfields are pieces of :pokinit:!!

Go with "RINGED" Longfields and you should do just alright.

Hope thats the case. I ordered my Longs and they sat while I built my truck then Bobby came out with the "ringless" Longs and I was going to send my ringed Longs back for the ringless but just kept them, then started reading about how the new ones werent as tuff. Glad I stuck with the 'ol school Longs.

I am not the "Hardest Core" wheeler by any means but I do have a Marlin Crawler and all my friends gimme hell about having one becuase I dont know what it means to crawl, I am always pedal down.

I run 37" tires and thus far have had awsome luck with the "RINGED" longs.

So does anybody have an answer to my origional question?  What about the washer?  Can I run without it?

WHITE_TRASH

How big was it?  The only type of washer that goes in a yota diff is a shim for the side gears.  I wouldnt think that would cause  breakage but you never know.

Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

If profields and ringless longfields suck...what would be a good upgrade??

Ringed longs are proving to be the hot ticket.  I have a set of ringless longs that I havent used all that much, I was thinking of sending them to long to get a ring put on them.  I would do that because the ringless are supposed to be made of a higher quality steel.

ive got one word and 2 numbers dana 44 :moon:

FatAzzRunner

I gotta call BS.  I have wheeled with many guys with Dana 44's and only 35's and they break axle parts constantly.

I run 37" MTR's and stock inners with RINGED Longfields and have yet to break anything up front.  Now that I say that I will probablly break next trip.

I wheel with one guy who has 2500 in his front 44 but  :ack: :-\ ::) into an axle???  I got 300 in mine, 1000 if you include the gears and locker.

2500?? heck that puts me 500 bills away from getting Unimogs and I dont have to ever worry about breakin parts with my Yota motor anyway.

post a pic of the washer..Do you have the clip on the axle to keep it from going all the way into the birf?

The piece is 2 1/4" outer Dia. and 1 3/8 inner Dia, and is not flat.  I looked on another housing and found it located in the knuckle behind the inner seal.  I'm not sure if missing it contributed to the breaking birfields or not, but now that I know it's location I'll just replace it.  Thank you for your advice and attention.

KYOTA

Sounds like the "baffle" thats in the axle tube behind the seal to keep the gear oil from sloshing out to the end of the axle.
