ah ur truck reminds me of my old 81 gmc. you can easily put a cummins 12 valve in there, i know a few people that have done that swap into that body style gm. do you want a stick shift or an auto? if you go auto 4l80E with a stand alone computer would be your best option, unless you have some money lying around and want to go with an allison. if you go stick the nv4500 is a direct bolt on (5 speed stick from both dodge and gm), or the nv 5600 if you want a 6 speed (from dodge).

i would love to put a 4500 or 5600 behind the future cummins but thats ALOT of cash.  i have seen junkyard 4L80Es for fairly cheap.  a good rebuild and it should handle all the power i think i want.  i might get a true diesel drag tranny too.

yes... its going to be big.  hopefully the wheel wells are big enuf i can keep the COG fairly low

which drag tranny are you talking about? most the guys i know that do sled pulls or drag race use either the 6 speed stick or the allison auto.

should be able to get an nv4500 for 1500-2000 bucks.

how much power are you looking to make? if its not too extreme you could go with a cummins 4bt (3.9L). has the same bolt pattern and is just as reliable as the 6bt, not difficult to make 400 ft/lbs of torque from it.

knowing me and my desires for something crazy i will be wanting a 6bt.  i was kinda hoping for 700+ ft/lb.  this project wont be for a while so i will prolly save up for the nv4500 and do it how i want it
