Personally, I'd use a random number generator, like this http://www.random.org/integers/, with 1 as my start, and the last post # as the end. The number it generates will relate to the post #.

But it's not the amount of posts that they're using, but the amount of people who post..

yes, ffc, that's what he said. "the number is generates will relate to the post number" ie, machine spits up a 14, post 14 gets it.

YotaJosh is correct in that a random number generator will be used to come up with a number, but it will be out of the number of members who replied not number of replies, and the number will reflect the member by order of those who reply.

That's the answer I was looking for, I was wondering if those that make multiple posts were getting extra numbers to work with or if you just thumb through all the irrelevant dribble like mine to determine the winner.
