Thank you very much.  Yeah, they did an awsome job as usual.

No we don't have any problems because we actually relocated the exaust so that it is not in the way.

OK.  So I needed lower gears and the guys at Marlin Crawler took care of it for me.

Got the 4.7's in the Tacobox and now I'm running at 237:1 crawl ratio.  In an automatic.  Gotta love it.

Here it is with the new gears in.  A work of art!!!

The 2.28 gears were great, but if you wanna really crawl you need the 4.7's.  And for those of you that have heard that the 4.7's wouldn't work in an auto or that you can't stop it, nothing could be further from the truth.  First of all, when you have the 4.7's in your front case you can run around on the trails with the front case in low and your T/C in hi and you'll love it.  Then when you need super low gears just put your T/C in low and your in a whole new world.  And stopping it is as simple as putting your tranny in neutral.  Lets face it folks, you won't be going all that fast to have to worry about a panic stop.

Thanks.  I'm gonna post up the fix of the speedo here also.  I think it's important for those that want to swap a newer Taco or an FJ Cruiser.

Thank you very much.  I'm really kicking around the idea of building another D-cab, but this time it would be an '01 to '04 and it would be on 37's and not 40's.  I think that would be the pefect truck.  I like my truck and won't get rid of it anytime soon but it really is not practical.  Don't get me wrong, it's a great truck and can do most anything, however, it's just too big to jump in and out of all the time.

That pic looks like if was photo shopped to death. It's awesome I love it. I think you need to send it to Dave at 4WD Toyota Owner Mag. He needs to use it as a cover pic on an upcoming issue and then do a feature on the truck.

Great shot!!!

It's been in Dave's magazine a dozen times already and has had 3 features in 4wd Toyota too.  It was actually in the very first issue.  Dave is a great guy and I am very greatful to him for putting my truck n his magazine.  Thank you very much for the comps.  My daughter did do some touch up on the pic.  I'm not sure what it was she did though.  That is real mud and dirt and snow.  I think she just did stuff with the lighting and such.

This is the original picture...

This is the touched up picture...

I like the last picture better.

Hey Wyatt, ??? for you.

Would you mind taking a measurment of your engine in the 05' Taco.

I'd like to know how tall it is. I'm curious to know if it will fit in an 85 chassi.

OK. Some of you know that when I changed my rear axle, I lost my speedo and my tranny didn't shift right not to mention my check engine light was on all the time.

I needed to fix this and the only way we thoght we could was to change the rear axle once again.

Thanks to Sol and Mossyrocks, we found a way to do it with out all the money of a rear axle.

First. The '05+ Taco's get the speed from the rear axle abs sensors, sends the info to the skid control unit, changes that info into a four pulse sequence and then sends that info to the instrument cluster into the speedo giving you the speed.

Since I didn't have the rear axle anymore, I needed to find another way to get that signal.

Enter Sol and Mossyrocks.

The early '05 Taco's have at the end of the transfer case, a plug that covers the port where a speed sensor goes for the manual tranny Taco's.

Now, from what I understand, the later '05 and up auto Taco's don't have this plug.  I TALKED WITH MARLIN AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL THE NEW GEN TACO'S HAVE THIS PLUG SO THIS MOD CAN BE DONE TO ALL OF THEM!

Then I needed tO get a speed sensor that would work in my Taco.

This is a speed sensor from a 3.4 Taco. There are a number of different tooth count gears that come with these. I needed a 30 count gear.

This one had 32 teeth so I needed to change the gear on it.

Here is the plug I made for the sensor.  The one I got from Marlin had very short ends so I took it apart and made new one's for it.  Works like a charm.

Now that I had all my parts......

I needed to find the wire I needed to tap into to feed the speedo the info it needed.
Here is the skid control schematic that shows the red yellow wire with the (A/T) next to it that goes to the speedo.

Then I found the shematic that shows how a manualtranny Taco gets it speed info. The V1 speed sensor is where the manual tranny Taco's get that info from. I just needed to follow that info and tap into the red yellow wire that goes to the speedo.

Then I had to find the red yelow wire in all of this junk.

Found it!!!

Then I put it all back together after taking the red yellow wire out.

Then it was time to go to the transfer case and pull the plug out of the rear of it.

Then I looked inside to see if there was indeed a worm gear that I could get speed from..... and there it was.  Marlin said the factory use's these as spacers so all of them should ave it.  Thats cool!

A closer look.....

Then I put the speed sensor in and hooked it up.

The sensor has three wires coming from it. One for power which I got a keyed 12 volts from the cigarret lighter, a ground which I grounded in the cabin, and the signal wire that I connected to the red yellow wire coming from the skid control unit.

Hooked them all up and lookie... It works. No more check engine light and the tranny shifts like t's should.

The best thing is that it's only 1 mph off. You just can't beat that.

I'ma so happy....  :circle:

Went to Calico a couple weekends ago and for those of you that are familar with Doran Falls you know how tricky the gate keeper can be.  I've tried to get up it twice before and it's the only opstical I couldn't get over out of all the trails my truck has been on.

But now that I have Marlins 4.7's in my truck and a new track bar that I didn't have before, my truck walked right up.  For those of you that wonder if a crawler box will make a diffrence or if you should put 4.7's in an automatic truck, wonder no more.  I only made it up because of the gearing my truck now has.

A jeep with no gearing couldn't get up, an early Toy on 40's with dual ultimates couldn't get up and a bronco looked at it nd turned around.

Save your money and get your Taco Box.
