i have removed the engine, tranny, and transfercase as one at the same time in my parts truck. just as you are thinking of doing. of coarse the crossmember will be out so the transfercase will be near dragging on the ground as the motor is coming out

Why do you want to remove all together? I've only removed all at once by sawzalling the rad cradle in one of my parts trucks and have tried, in the beginning ,to remove all together but my chain fall would not go high enough even with 9' ceilings!
I find it easier to remove engine separatley and then drop tranny/transfer case out the bottom.
Hope it helps, DanS
Wow, been looking at my 4Runner rust away too long, need some inspiration and here I will find it...!

I've done it but ya had better be prepared to tilt and wiggle. You will need to lift everything really high too. Its definately a pain to do it this way, but its doable.

I use this and love it.  A little expensive, but it works really well.  Direct spray on, let sit a few minutes, lightly scrub with brush, and rinse.
