4runner acceleration problem

This is hard to explain.  I have a 89 V6 4runner.  If I am reving it and push the pedal in slowly it revs fine, it i give it a deep quick push it doesn't make a nice growl it sound like it is choking, like it is lean or rich.  If I am driving and I attemped to accelerate quickly it sound like it is dieing again, but if I slowly give it gas it seems to pull stronger.  It runs good though.  I changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and the air filter is clean.  IT use to sound better, like a good VOOM.  If I smash the pedal to the floor when driving it jumps up and goes like its on crack, and on the high way it seems like the same deal, it does not have much power unless give a LARGE doss of pedal.  Please help, I know it is somthing small so it makes me mad it is not running tip top.

check fuel presser reg. presser sould jump up when you hit the gas padle. if it don't, change your press. reg.  just my $.02

It could also be the fuel filter.

Fuel filter, clogged injector, clogged/dirty air filter?

check your timing too, my truck was doing similar things, turns out the timing was 3 degrees retarded, bumped it up, and it's all good.
