My runner is a gross polluter
« on: Apr 11, 2007, 04:58:51 PM »
Just had it smogged and the HC (PPM) failed at 277 the max allowed is 270 . I think it might be something with the air/fuel. It just doesnt idle right. This sucks! now I have to take it to a gold service tech and pay more money :shudder:

I also taught him how to put in 5min of hard work and then spend 15min staring and admiring what you have done...

Man, that sucks!  I always ask them to sniff the tailpipe first and abort the test if it doesn't pass.  It's saved me once.

sorry to hear that, but sounds like you will pass fairly easy. the referees are rude as hell but will help a little.

im not sure what the deal is. The motor is a brand new rebuild. The guy i bought it from is the one that put it in so there is probably something not hooked up right. I havent really checked it out, I just did a visual of everything to see if there was anything out of place.

Didn't even consider timing!  I believe you have 3 degrees leeway either way, so you can retard it 3 degrees and pass a little easier.  I believe this is often the cause of the "my truck had more power before I got it smogged, what did they do?!" comment.

well it ended up being a vacuum leak. He also said I need to change the intake manifold gasket which didnt make any sence because it was just replaced with less than 30miles on it.
