NEED HELP NOW ON KNUCKLE SHIMMING!!! ?? Parts for Birfield Eliminator kit??

I am rebuilding my knuckles on my 85 and can't seem to find out how to shim the knuckles or what exactly the shims do. I really need some info please.

They put load (called preload) on the bearings.

you'll need a knuckle pull scale or a fish scale. read the write ups on birfield.com or 4x4wire or 4crawler.com.

I think I used one thick shim on top and bottom on both sides on mine.....might not be a bad starting point

if  you are using Marlins rebuild kit  and replace  the bearings  and races,   you need  one thick and one thin  top and bottom,  you will be so close  to perfect its scary

why would marlins kit be different than using stock toyota OEM? they use the same bearings

Very important is the fact that the shims center the axle within the axle tube seal!

thanks for the help I got it shimmed up but now I am having the problem with my knuckle turning when the spindle is bolted on. I have the birfield eliminator kit and I think that the plastic washer is binding between the axle and the spindle.  I was looking at a diagram and it showes a bushing on the back side of the spindle.. should I still have one because there wasn't one in there, just a plastic washer. I dunno if the birfield eliminator kit uses a different setup or what?

I need some new bronze sleeve inserts for my Birfield Eliminator kit and I can't find just the sleeves anywhere.  I need some help.

i have a birf eliminator kit and it sucks.... mine is machined all wrong and nothing lines up or seals...  i wish you luck with yours.
