the town that FEMA forgot
« on: Apr 07, 2007, 05:26:17 PM »
as many of you know  after Katrina hit  over 10,000  mobile homes  and  traveltrailers  were stored  at the  Hope AR   airport.
being a extreme  waist  of  federal money the governor  and  many of  our congressmen and senators asked  for the reason  why they were so many  "stored" there  .
these weren't  "used"  homes  they were factory fresh.       and  after  all this time over 9000  mobile homes  are STILL  in storage,  bought  with your tax money BY  FEMA

now fast forward  to  February 24th  2007,   it  was a dark  and stormy night

and  the poor  little town of Dumas Arkansas  was  pounded  by  a F-3 tornado  with 160 mph winds.  houses  that were  once there  were   left in a pile of  sticks,  most of the businesses   were destroyed  or  damaged  beyond  safe use.
the military  set up a huge tent  that served  as the "new walmart"  so  trucks  could unload supplies  for the residents  to  pickup.

sounds bad  right??    well   the Arkansas  governor  asked  for  the area  to be declared a disaster area,  as  is  the usual after  such a storm.   however  the FEMA  director  said  he just didn't see that much damage  and recommended    to Pres. Bush  that  federal aid  wasn't really needed.

so  the  people of  Arkansas  have come together  to rebuild Dumas.   here is a website  for the rebuilding of  the  ballparks,  were  the  chainlink fences  of the old ones  was ripped  from the steel posts

been there done that! when a tornado ripped through Marmaduke in 2006 fema set up camp and handed out tarps and eats. Now don't get me wrong it was allot of help but in a rual community like this one there were so many people who were left wanting.

Now a year later there are ex homeowners who can't get approved for the govt loans because of one reason or another, Some of these people put there whole life into there homes only to have it gone with a puff of wind, and now they may never be able to recoup from that tragic day. It really is sad when someone could easily be sold one of these fema homes at a discounted price, but Fema would rather have them there collecting dust.

Hug your kids, pray for a soldier, and don't sweat the small stuff.

Yeah, FEMA sucks man.  When Rita hit back in 05 (rember Rita? the huricaine that was right after Katrina) it pretty much whiped out everything below Lake Charles, the company i was working for at the time lost two of their docks. Fema didn't help with crap. Even the few people who got hit hard in my area(we didnt have much damage in my town luckily) were passed over by them. Really makes me feel glad that our tax dollars are being put to good use .

There is a fine line between clever and stupid, I just wish I knew when I crossed it.
