Federal or California Truck?
« on: Mar 12, 2007, 10:20:57 PM »
This may be a dumb question but how do you tell if your vehicle is a federal (49 state) or a california vehicle? I know my truck is federal but only because the smog guy told me.

you can compare your emissions setup to that of the diagrams available for the fed or CA truck.... if you run a vin search it should determine it as well

If the emissions label is still present and legible under the hood then read it closley and it should say something like... 'this vehicle complies to emissions standards for federal and california emissions for the 19XX model year'... If it does not say California in that statement then it is a federal vehicle. Hope this helps you out.

fed trucks dont have a smog pump or o2 sensor. also the little emissions computer on the drivers kick panel will say federal on it instead of california. at least on the 81-83 ones i have seen.
