read that "the w55 is a 2wd transmission, the w56 is a 4wd transmission..... internally they are the same, but the output shaft between the 2wd and 4wd are different and the 2wd has a tailshaft whereas the 4wd has a tcase mounted to it."
So if i pull the tailshaft off can i mount a t-case to it?

you would probly have to change the output shaft

haha, i knew your name looked familiar...... i sent you an email about the seat tracks from craigslist

thats my post too, i remember typing that....

you will need the tcase and output shaft of the 4x4 tranny.....

however, im not sure if there is a class difference with the w55 like there is with the w56 as the w56 has the a, b, c, etc models

i have a w55 for sale

Hey i just PMed you. The reason I'm asking is i want to take out my auto A340F to put in a manual. I was looking at an R151 but decided that it was to expensive and a little overkill. So i was looking into finding a 2wd tranny and converting it, if i couldn't find a 4wd. But the convertion is a little to advanced for me. But if you or anyone has a w56 w/ a top shift t-case i would be interested.
