material of input shaft on 21 spline t-case??!

i am doing a failure anaylsis on the rear input shaft of my 21 spline toy case for a materials class, it would help a bunch if somebody would know the material that the shaft is made out of any help would be much appreciated

sammy, 4.3,th350,dual toys,4.11 toys, 39.5 boggers, 38 swampers, if your not living on the edge you are taking up too much space!

Joe, after having problems with the factory, 21 spline inputs failing, back in 97', I sent one to a lab to have it checked out....
It costs me about $100.00 to have it complety checked out.
As i remember, the closest american alloy was 1050, or 1051.
This is a tool steel, and is case hardened by adding carbon.
I still have the results some where.....

sweet thats what i was looking for, the way the grain looked i suspected that it was carbonized, if it would not be to much work could you post that report?
