rear u-bolt flip kit

I just perchased the rear flip kit for my 83 and the u-bolts are wider than the axle by about .75 or so, is this the normal fitment for this kit. Has anyone else experienced this and what is the proper torque spec for Marlins u-bolts. Side not , has anyone plowed into this new snow we have.

yep don  they are not real tight    i just tightened mine  then put cheater bar on ratchet  handle  and gave it some more  ,,just check them out  once a week

Yup same with mine!!  Don't worry just use your jack handle for an additional 4 ft of leverage.  Worked good on mine.

I watched someone snap a u-bolt with a 4' snapon breaker bar.  So be careful not to overtighten them.  Stock u-bolts call for 90 ft lbs.  I torque mine to 100. 

Check the torque after your 1st driving trip, and also the 1st time you flex up the rear.  After that, you won't have to check them all the time.  I check mine after each "hard" run or two and so far so good.

4'.....be real careful.  If those are 9/16 U-bolts it won't take much to break those or damage the threads. At the very least you could over stretch the U-bolt and it could break. DO torque them with a torque wrench. They won't get tight enough with an impact no matter how long you "ratatat'' them. I used 5/8 U-bolts on mine and they only torque to 110-120...plenty tight! Mine are stock chevy rears with the chevy spring plates that fit perfectly over my V6 rear end housing. Couldn't ask for a better fit.
