dual case Q
« on: Feb 29, 2004, 06:58:56 AM »
hey marlin i am in the slow process of building a 1988 toyota pickup. it is a V6 but will soon have a 22re engine in it. it will have all the v6 gears in it. im wondering if i can use your dual case setup as a substitute for new ring and pinion gears cause they are expensive. if i have the dual case setup would leaving it in low gear at all times work in pushing a 33 or 35 inch tire or maybe slightly larger. thanks alot

This is a common question.
Sorry, the answer is no!
The added Marlin box will lower your ring and pinons 128%.
This is waaaay to low, and in 5th you could only go around 40 miles per hour without really winding out your motor.

do the gears a little at a time it will help you afford it and spread it out.
buy your ring and pinion gears
then later buy your install kits
then go have them installed or even break that down and do it a little at a time and this time next year you'll be wheeling. or go buy some used thirds from sombody online and hope they are good. I know somebody who got a v6 4:88 and a open 4cyl 4:88 for like 525 total money and both were in great shape.
too much spent to go slow
too much spent to stay low
too much spent on the go
but it's fun you know
