so i got it and the ring and pinion was chewed to heck,  and one of the pieces was pushed into the carrier( or what i think is the carrier part.  does anyone know if it should be ok as is or if i should weld the hole up or if  the part needs to be replaced and what part it is.  i am planning on getting 4.88's installed anyway let me know what yall think, thanks.  i just want to be sure before i spend money to get gears set up and install it to find out its going to fail

have you tested this unit to see if it engages/disengages? that chip on the locker doesn't look so bad, (not good) but i don't believe it will affect the ability of the locker unless there's a crack that goes all the way through...but those pictures are a little fussy

Tear it down and see if there is any damage any where else!  If not, I would go ahead run it!  Maybe have it checked for cracks by a professional!  Alot of times we can't physically see the damage in metal, but a shop can check for it!  Good luck, I want one!

You could send it to Marlin or Inchworm.  Jim at Inchworm is good and has rebuilt one of my e-locker motors.

I bought my standard rotation E-Locker 3rd member with a blown up R&P. Parts had shattered about, however everything looked to be ok. I put in 5.29s and new bearings and its been working great for over 2 years.

that make me feel better. and i got this on ebay so i didnt know about the big ding in it.  i am just worried about the locker failing.  howmuch would marlin charge to set up gears. i am planning on coming out there this summer to have my dual cases and 4.7 installed( i already bought them.)  i got to get some more cash first and got to get the thing running.  engine has been with the machine shop a year and a half now(((  i need to bug him more)))  thanks all for the input.  do you think i could or should have some wone weld up that hole and fill it in then grind it down so it dosent stick out.  what you think??

that would be cool if it is just surface dents.  im in hayward in the bayarea so it is a little bit of a haul.  i am planning on going in like 3-4 months if i get my 4runner running  in order to get my duals installed.  ill have to bring it to you then i guess.  how much would yall charge to look at it  and how much to install the 488's i have sitting waiting to go in?  i got a quote of about 600 to do the dual cases and 4.7 gears and driveshaft work.  just asking soI know hoe much i need before i make an appointment.

for the duals, 4.7 and driveshaft for 600...that's not bad if you ask me. i do all my own work, but if i didn't, i'd jump on it. if in fact, the shop was reputable
