Built a rear bumper for the '85
« on: Jan 30, 2007, 06:37:16 PM »
Finally got around to building a bumper for the 4runner.  It is made out of 2"x3" tubing 3/16 wall.  The brackets are made from 1/2"x2.5" flat stock.  Added some 11,000# d-rings and a receiver hitch.  I was going to make a spare tire carrier, but I didn't like how much of the rear glass it blocked.  Guess it will stay in the back.

That bumper is looking good, nice and simple!

The receiver hitch is welded into place.  I cut a 2.5"x2.5" hole threw the front and back and slid the receiver in.  It is welded front and back.  There is some bracing on the back side to stiffen it up.  I don't have a picture of that yet.

nice job. I like how it flairs out to match the bed sides.

thanks, It took some more work, but I liked the way it turned out.

Very nice, you got any pics of it being made?  Or how it's mounted up underneath?

I like it, mine is very similar. Here are a few pics of my spare mount, I can still see pretty well out the back window.

1988 extra cab pickup, 3.0, 5spd, Marlin HD clutch, short throw shifter,  Bj spacers, 2" Downey springs,  4 crawler 1" body lift, Billstein shocks, 33 x 10.5 BIG AT on stock alloys.

Needs a 3.4 swap. ..
