I am in the middle of building a runner that originally had an auto trans. As I run across things I will post them here. Any input would appreciated.

We'll start with the computers. Marlin said I should be able to swap this 88 AT for this 85 MT. I give it a try and post what I find.

Here's the 88 AT......

I also found that the brake pedal bracket was the same as a manual trans braket and it was easy to swap the pedals out of my 83 right into the 88. Drilled out for the clutch master and ran the line to the slave.

The starter solenoid wire will need to be jumped because the netural safety switch on the side of the auto transmission is going away with the old trans.
I jump the white? wires on the factory plug above the starter.

Dropped the newly rebuilt motor in Sat. and put my 1996 crawler in between my new W56HD and 4.7 to 1 t-case that I picked up from Marlin at TDS.

Tranny in and motor started next weekend!    :crossed:

It's hard to keep my mind on this boreing stuff and not think ahead to the SAS and cage projects.

A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Marlin

You will need to connect the two larger wires on the auto loom above the starter. It is the white and black wires.

Hope you received the 4 shift handle bolts.
Your old L52 had a wasted front bearing-still a good core

Thanks Marlin

Thanks for the help Marlin. Got the bolts the following Tuesday.  I'm glad the bearing dropped onto the floor at your shop instead of halfway up Jackhammer. I'm glad I didn't go the cheapskate route and try to make the L52 work. If all the people I deal with in this game were as kind and professional as you have been, I'd be out of money.

Thanks again,

Marlin said somthing about performance. The auto trans comp. needs some kind of input from the trans to work at peak hp. smog isn't the issue. I've heard the same from other sources. I haven't run the truck yet but will have it running by this weekend. I plan on swaping back and fourth with the auto comp. and the manual comp. to see the difference. I will post my findings.

Hey roy,
Glad to see your project underway. Just got in a turbo charger and fuel injection for your old motor :eyebrow:. Still got an axle for me? I know I lag.

Hey Cullen. Thanks. Its running and will be on the road long enough to breaking the motor and then it goes back on stands to lose the IFS. Yes I still have the axle. Let me know when your ready for it or I'll let you know when it gets in my way.

I know I haven't updated in a while but the Runner is making slow bt sure progress and the project is picking up speed as the season draws near. The wife just had a little boy so I'll need the four seater to fit the new four member family. I'm not good at build-up pictorials so here's a few pictures and coments. Post up with questions or coments.

- Roy

The auto trans is history as is the IFS.

More pics and storys to come as time permits. (see pic below!) This rig will be rolling by christmas and should be tested and completed with armor by TDS. Thanks to Marlin for the W56HD and 4.70 T-case. That 223 to 1 final ratio will come in handy with the 37's.

- Roy

This is the wonderful reason you haven't heard from me in a while......

Those wheels look GREAT!!!  Are they Walker Evans???

I've done 2 SAS's on 4Runners, and they both look like the rear end sags about 1.5"...does yours sit level?  It's hard to tell in the pics

Good Work!

that looks sweet with the 37's

Also the reasons people think runners sag so much is cause the front fenders are naturally higher than the rear fenders

Yes! The rims are 17" Walkers. It looks like somone put hubcaps on a tractor huh? Yes rear droops a little. However I haven't worked the front springs at all yet and I'm planning on a heavy duty bumper and winch. Should settle just right. It's a little to high right now.
