As is sais, it is time to build an engine to go in my toy. currently its got a tired old and worn out stocker that will be replaced with a fairly inexpinsive but powerful(for a 22re) garage built, off the shelf parts motor.

I have an extra 22re lying around that will be the subject of the "Inexpinsive" but reliable build.

Ive found a few things that would be great to start off with but the are kind of expinsive. We all know of the downey and the LC engeneering and he engine boulders stuff, but they arent the most affordable.

my first question is a rebuild set that i found on ebay that claims to have everything needed to do the job and to do it right. Oh and a "Crawler" cam is included. here is a link. and a pic of what its goin in.

That enginebuilder kit you linked on ebay seems to be a really good deal, and a lot of people are happy with their products

make sure you get the steel timing chain guide kit, either engnbldr's driver side guide or DOA or LCE's driver and pass side guides

i got the LCE both metal guides because I'm paranoid, but from what i gathered from detailed conversations about it with engnbldr and other toy people, the drivers side guide is all you really need to upgrade as the pass side doesn't see the abuse the driver's side guide sees... i had a huge thread about it on yotatech before i got banned

the 261 crawler cam is what enginebuilder recommended that I use. i will be doing the same rebuild on my motor shortly, I am going to buy the complete performance head from enginebuilder as well. X2 on the metal guides. just make sure you do it right the first time and dont cut any corners.

time and care will be taken during the build. im just after the most affordable yet still quality parts. more bang for the buck kinda thing. i know there are a lot of outragous ways to build a motor, but i am a college student thats not looking for the bling. just whatever gets the job done and last a little while.

about the timing chain, i agree with the metal guides thing. i remember seeing a 22r with a double chain setup in the repair manual. is it really needed, does it last longer, is it better for an upgraded cam, are there clearance issues, etc.?

Just finished a 22RE rebuild and didn't worry about the double chain.  The double chain was stock on some eariler 22R's and you can buy the LC kit to convert to dual chain.  Not worth the money  :twocents:
