PS Fluid Type?
« on: Jan 11, 2007, 07:37:53 AM »
I noticed that manual says that the older yotas use ATF for power steering fluid.  Well, I didn't catch this in time and filled it with Synthetic PS fluid.  Is this a bad thing and I should drain it out and refill with Synth ATF or am I OK.  Why does Toyota say to use ATF, Better lubrication for the pump?

Thanks.  I almost have this thing built!

I've used PS fluid before, only thing I noticed on switching to ATF was better feel, better response.  Short answer: it'll work.

PS fluid will destroy your seals.  Why do you think so many toys have leaky PS boxes? it's usually because someone put PS fluid in at one point. Use only Dexron ATF

Haha its funny because of the two opinons on what to use (ATF or PS fluid) both parties always seem hell bent on their method. Ive had almost equal amounts of people tell me ATF blew seals as those that have told me PS fluid blows seals. gahh, what to do...i have been running ATF without any problems, maybe i will just stick with that.

Looks like I'll drain it out and go with Synth ATF then.

:dunno:  seeing as the PS cap actually says to use only Dexron  ATF,  I usually do what Toyota says to
