the 85 runnah
« on: Dec 24, 2006, 06:24:32 AM »
Well this year sucked for me for offroading I sold my 82 old truck in march.

I really miss it  :smack:     :rivers:

but I am back this is my next victim below. :D

1985 Toyota 4 runner
170,000 miles
4" rough country lift
1" Roger Brown body-lift

As it is currently picked it up for $800 and it runs.

Not alot of money to do anything but when I get the tax return it will start.

Ummm obviously the first mod will to get a new spring pack for the rear and rid it of the huge lift blocks and trailer leaf or "stilts of death" some call it.

Anyways fun fun have my work cut out on it.

Wish me luck....

Some cosmetics have to be done.  The front bumper needs to built it will be similar in design to my bumper on my 82.
The stupid lights on the roof are outa there the gay mirrors are going.
Needs some minor brake work. Also it hasn't really moved in a year but it runs needs a battery likely the first thig it will get is a optima.

Well I just fixed the exhaust. The pipe had to be recut and the gaskets between the cat converter were non exsitant.
I added some fresh gas to it seems to run alot better wonder why.....

Got rid of those gay ass mirrors it had on it. I got some new stock replacement mirrors from A-1 auto parts they look pretty decent.

Well dickered with the runner this afternoon and found it won't stay idling then found anti freeze opps leaking from the back of the headgasket.... :shake:

These are the options....

Rebuild motor?
Fix head gasket?

Motor swap? 5mge sounds good I can still get one cheap....

Opinions wanted....

Down the road given time, space, and a little $ im going for a 3RZ swap. But the 5mge sounds good too if you can get 1 cheap.

The thing is the whole friggin harness is completely hacked in this truck.
I looked under the dash and almost cryed in frustration.... Basically reengineered bypassed spagetti wired....
Maybe a 3rz swap who knows it definately needs a motor and a new harness at this point...
I think what i should do is take the thing down to a warehouse and strip the interior completely out and start from there.
At least the 82's harness was in better shape.....

Well a little tweaking and some work I got the 22re running. :)
The leak wasn't the headgasket like I thought it was from a water hose.
As for the hacked wiring I will have to weed the non used wires outa there.
So the saga contiunes. I'm getting it running decent then springs, hysteer, gears and lockers...

I remember the PITA it was for the 82 well I did it all myself with a angle grinder and a drill. I will probably use torches this time around makes things alot faster....
