Slider rear window on std cab 80 truck
« on: Dec 22, 2006, 09:14:50 AM »
So my rear cab slider window will lock in the center but then I can slide both locked-logether pieces of glass to either side.  Not real secure.  How to fix?

I've got similar problems in my 80... All the rubber is screwed and you could get into the truck just my using a knife or key or something similarly shaped... Anyway, best bet would seem to be replacing the window, at least that's what I'm gonna do. Somebody parting out a truck might have a newer one they could sell you for cheap, or you might just try calling your local glass place and see how much it'd be. The windscreen in my tacoma was only like $130, with at home service and installation.

ebay has replacement windows. I imagine that would be cheaper than a custom one from a glass shop.

I might have a rear window. I'll check & get back to you. Where are you located?

I just checked & I have the rear window assembly. The lock is broke but with in the closed position, the windows won't do what yours is doing. I don't know were to get a quote for shipping. I'm in Stockton, CA 95203. Let me know if you're interested. I'll sell it for $60 plus shipping.

What about getting some of that really sticky black window cement and glue em back down? I'd imagine you could drop some welding rod or some sorta wire in the channels to keep em from sliding too.

That's a good point. If you arent wanting to spend any money and don't need the sliding feature, you could shut it permanently, which would be more secure than even a working slider window, which is one of the common ways through which these trucks get broken into.

I like the rod in the channel idea to keep them locked more securely.  I'll try that first.

mjos, is there a screw on the top rail directly centered were both sliders meet? The screw keeps the windows from slide all the way across. Just put another or slightly larger screw in there.

My 80 slid around a little too, not enough to open but it did move when locked. Look at it this way if someone attemps to open your truck by force he's not gonna care about the slider, he'll just break it anyways.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll do that.
