Which muffler?
« on: Feb 11, 2004, 09:41:08 PM »
I'm thinking of running stack pipes on my '80 pickup.  I want it to be LOUD!!!  So what muffler would allow this.  I have a stock 22r with a header and i think i want to run a single-in dual-out muffler for dual stack pipes.  Any input would be much appreciated.

You want loud don't use a muffler.  And I know they don't make them single in dual out or at least i haven't seen them yet but a 12inch glass pack.  Heat it up with a torch and run water through it.

The sickest sounding 4 cyl I ever heard was a nissan 4x with manifold no cat 2.5 head pipe into a single in dual 2 in. out flowmaster.  That thing was scary sounding loud as hell when you nailed it but not too bad cruising.  If you want pure evil use twisters moroso still markets them they are freakin insane I had them on my 84 for a while just plain wicked!!

Oh yea Ive found that you will wanna stay away from the big stacks, they dont force the exhaust out they just kinda let it flow.  Sounds stupid but trust me if you want loud especially with a 4 popper dont go over 4" stacks.  Heres my 84

Thanks for that website WT.  That's a great looking truck.  I will probably just go with 2 1/2 in. stacks.

WHITE_TRASH, what exactly did you buy for your stacks? 4" X 36" or what? I want to put stacks on my '85 through the bed, it'll have a 350 in it, what do you recommend? How did you secure them and what not? I like the way you did it on yours, want to sort of emulate that.

Thanks in advance, Daniel

Yep 4" x 36" is right.  They have mounts welded to them where they go past the top bar of the headache rack.  There is also a mount where they make a 90 to go up.  The exhaust is so short thats all the mounts it needs.

another loud muffler is spintech  I thank thats how you spell it.  The guy who designed these is the same that designed mufflers for NASCAR.  And personally I think you get alot of sound quality out of the sahpe and size top you use.
