Tires!
« on: Dec 12, 2006, 11:34:44 PM »
What does everyone think are the best tires for the following conditions, I do a fair amount of road driving and lots of mud, snow, ice, and some log crawling. What tires would be best? I am looking for a 1990 Toyota Ex-cab with a v6 and 4:88s and about 6 inches lift, no lockers yet but soon, I was thinking either MTR's or Baja Claws, any suggestions would be helpful. thanks

your thinking of the mtrs? there are plenty of mtrs out there. but my guess is the wranglers your thinking of. yes if i were you and your type of driving and im guessing its still your DD, id get some goodyear wrangler mtrs. ive had my for over a year and a half and theres a bunch of tread left (i do alignment as much as i cant) they grip the rocks and snow great for what im doing as of now.

For the price and value, you can't beat the "buy 3, get 1 free" deal from ProComp.  I just put some 285/75/R16 Mud Terrains on my rig and they are sweet!  That tire size is perfect for those who want a true 33" tire, but prefer a skinnier width at ~11.2".  I had 33x12.5 BFG's on at one point and didn't like the width at all.  Very much a preference thing.

ProComp Mud Terrains look awesome, grip like crazy (they have sipes, while Goodyear MTR's do not), and they are surprisingly quiet on the road.  I bought mine from PerformanceProducts.com due to no tax, free shipping, etc.

Best of luck in your search...

There are TONS of tire threads.  Do a little searching and you'll find they all go pretty much the same

MTR's all the way. Best tires I have ever owned. Used to be BFG MT's.

I dont have 33's, but I am thinking of taking off the body lift and then running 33's instead of the 35's, thanks to everyone for all the info.

For best all around, you can't go wrong with MTR's.

Don't have any long term results yet, as I have only had them on for a month, but so far I love my new Maxxis Bighorn Radials.  Used them in mud, snow, dirt, and rocks so far.

no brainer here... goodyear MTR's
