Topic: Spring Decision

 All right I have started looking for leaf springs for an 1985 4runner or pickup. I am looking at the All Pro long travel 6 inch leaf springs, the Marlin 5 inch leaf springs, and the trail gear 5 inchers. I am aware that All Pro's springs have sag(result of searching). So I was wondering what springs you guys recomend? I plan on running 38.5s and I am not sure a 5inch spring will give me enough clearence without a body lift. I will be cutting the fenders. PLease help me out here. Thanks in advance.

everything trailgear sells  is a ripoff  of  either Marlin or Allpro

Then why do all pro springs sag and the trail gear ones dont have any complaints of sag? I relize that they are all very close to the same. Not every one on here has Marlins some have a different brand. That is why I asked.

All pros are different, trail gears are rip offs. Like coyote said, if you want good customer service and support don't bother with all pro or trail gear. Marlin and his crew all run the snot out of what they sell on their own rigs nearly every weekend. You won't see jon or chris doing that....they might get dirty.

For our snow rigs around here we run 3 inch superlift springs and 38s lol just move the axle forward trim the fenders and beat the pinch weld/floorboard in some. My friend has marlins on his runner. The first set he got flattened out but marlin swapped them out no problem and his new ones are holding up great.

That's pretty funny. I read tons of comments on how trail gears sag because of the import steel they're made of. From my understanding, other countries don't control the process of making the steel as closely as America does (big suprise here). Hence, the import springs don't last as long, break easier, et cetera. If you plan on wheeling for many years to come with your truck, just cough up the extra dough and buy marlin American made springs. I think the American made all poo and marlin springs are the same (from what I've read at least) as they both come from betts, but whether this is true or not, marlin is the man and you should buy his product.

I have some 5" Trail-Gear springs I bought for cheap from a friend that was in a bind...


The Trail-Gear springs I got from him were brand-new in wrapping and they have already started sagging and I haven't even driven my truck!

Of course, I have Rockwell axles and a 7MGE....

I am disappointed though because I have only moved my truck on a trailer and the springs seem to have been sagging since I have purchased them....

doesnt matter......the rockwells are unsprung weight. there is no reason why those should do that if they have not been flexed at all! ridiculous!

thats what i would run too....a little bit on the expensive side but custom built packs for YOUR truck. plus they only make ONE product....leaf springs

You allmake a good point. All i here about Marlin is he is the best customer service and products. So I think I will go with the marlins. With 5 inches of lift I will probubly need to do alot of fender cutting?

I have a friend that is going to be running 5" Marlin Springs with 38.5 Ground Hawgs, but he has already done a little trimming.

I run the Marlin 4" USA made springs and couldn't be happier.  If you like cheap, chinese made crap, then buy from TG.
