hey  chris,  I have a question for you, Back in 2000 you owned  a yellow 82  toyota with custom bed and the hybird toy/60. I was lookin at some pictures  and saw this ,you used a plasma torch to cut the rear housing for clearance , you only gained about 3/4 of and inch right? well the question is could you do the same to the front? cut the housing and replate the housing with 1/4 inch steel?  and then slip a hy pinion 3rd member in it? do think its possible  and  what would  be the pros and cons to doin it, i already did the rear. Thanks  a bunch , shayne

also I've got the red line d44 birfield eliminator kit, just if that makes  a differance, maybe ?

Due to the shape of the front end, it looked like I could shave about 1/2" off the front end if I had done the same thing. I got a little more out of the rear end cause I rotated the housing, this allowed for a better cut of the housing. On the front the knuckles would need to be cut and turned to get full clearance like the rear. Even 1/2" would help even if you did not rotate the housing.

i liked that toyota  i thought it was a perfect truck with the bed and all, I used your idea  on the old all pro site  , on relocating the gas tank, for my custom bed  its cool !!

Another option on the front is to just shave the drain plug. One less thing to hang up on and a whole lot easier than cutting and plating.

That what I did with the rear, just took it out. To drain the oil I removed a stud from the 3rd member.

Yea  My axels are out in  my garage as I type now , so fabbing them now is  the time , anything i do to them is not a problem,ex. cuttting and shaving bla ..bla.. Cause i have a plasma  cutter its really nice, however I am looking in to the  full floater kit from front range. Do you think that kit is dependable and can take the abuse?   Do you know of any other kit that uses the stock  toyota  calipers ? I'm up for any suggestions. I e -mailed front range about their kit ,just askin some normal questions, It never hurts to get other peoples input and  ideas!!  Thanks , shayne

Andy here at the shop used a similar kit on his FJ40 and had lots of problems shearing factory hub studs. Unless you really need to unlock the rear end for flat towing I would not use that kit. I think your money would be bettter spent getting a set of All Pro rear heavy duty axles. That's a really good axle.

yes , i did look at all pros  kit but its not a full floater and has no rear disc brake set up     meaning better stoppin power and  easier to maintain a broken axel, plus the parts except the actual  shafts are stock, which is nice on trail runs, if ya know what i mean
