I pulled the hoses off at the engine. I used the garden hose to force water through the core. First one way, then the other.  Me, and the engine compartment got really wet! (In 40 degree weather!)  Eventually I worked it loose and flushed all the rusty crud out.

Now I have heat! :clap2:

Tintop, you either got a bunch of rust in your heater core or some big air pockets in your cooling system.  Try parking your truck on something that lifts the front end higher than the rear.  Then take off you radiator cap and turn your heater on full blast.  This should remove all air pockets in the cooling system because now, the highest point is your radiator cap.

I know if you don't do this with the older fuel injected Toys after doing major engine work, the engine's idle with surge up and down as the bubbles pass by the coolant temp sensor for the computer, but it may not have that effect on a truck that's carbed.

If you have the selector on vent you will get cold air. You have to put it on any other setting and you'll get heat.

I had the same problem.  What I did was blow water backwards through the heater core.  Logically thinking, this would do a better job at freeing rust and debris because it would force the pressurized water back through the system.  When I did so, all kinds of "crud" came out of the other end.  Needless to say, my heat was much warmer after doing this.  I agree that this was an extremely messy job.

Another thing that I noticed and this ended up being my problem was that the valve assembly somehow became somewhat crimped, which kept the valve from moving freely inside the pipe.  Once I freed this up and returned the valve to the fully open position, my problem was fixed.

a quick fix for the stuck valve is to get some 3/4" copper elbows and solder them together. yank the valve out and replace with the copper bypass then you are set to go until you get a new valve!
