I NEED HEADERS FOR MY YOTA
« on: Nov 07, 2006, 09:11:16 AM »
Alrighty, first off, i'm new into this whole toyota world, mainly the V6 community. I am used to working on big blocks and small block engine's.

My first question is where do i go to get some... i have been looking all over and have not found anywhere that sells headers for my truck (1991 Toyota P/U EXT CAB 4x4 V6). Please, if anyone can help me, that would be awesome.

Well thank you for Downeyoffroad.com, but it seems that they want $425.00 buckaroos from the headers for my truck... a little more than i can pay right now. But i guess i will have to save up for the best. Is there anywhere else that might sell headers?? if any, please tell me. Thanks

By free flowing, do you mean straight exhaust. I was thinking of using magna flow straight pipe muffler and straight pipe cat.... is this what you mean??

It looks like LC just sells Downey headers.  They claim 11 hp increase with stock exhaust, $425 is a lot of cash to drop on an old pickup, but $425 for 11 hp is a pretty good deal.

I wish i had pics i could post of my truck. I got one of those rare finds, an older truck that was extremely taken care of, and documented down to the grease that was put in the bearings and what dates of oil changes. It's completely immaculate. Old, yes, worth throwing money into it...HELL YA

Call up summit or go to their website... My 22R doug thorley header cost me all of $190 shipped, and though I'm not gonna make the argument that it's better than downey/lc header, I WILL make the argument that it's a way better deal when comparing cost to quality... just my  :twocents:

Wouldn't there be a huge difference in cost between the 22r and my V6???

Yes.  Just remember, a cheap header is a cheap header in both respects.  Look for thick flanges, good scavenging and good welds, just like you would for your v8s

And see, thats exactly why i don't want to buy cheap headers, cause you get what you pay for. So thick flanges and good welds.. enough said... problem still is, that i want to keep shopping around and keep pricing....

look on ebay...and here, as well as other toyota forums...lots of people take the 3.0 out and do v8s or 22res, so maybe someone has 3.0 performance stuff they cant use any more, i know that there was a guy here that was selling headers, intakem and a throttle body for a 3.0 a few months ago.

and welcome :beerchug:

I'm prolly going to look on ebay, but the problem with that is if they have been used that means that they have been warped to the engine that they where previously on... meaning that they won't fit on my engine properly. I am going to be doing a lot more looking into this Forum, i am still trying to get used to it, plus i don't get much time to look while i work, THANK YOU UNCLE SAM....

And why does everyone hate the 3.0L??? I used to have a 1997 Toyota Tacoma EXT CAB 4x4 with the V6 and auto.... with only 54K on it, it was slower than my 1991 is, with 198K on the truck and 80k on a new block. I still don't understand why no one like's them. Where should i post this question?? cause i want to get a lot of people's personal opinions on the issue.

That would only be true if the mounting surface weren't true on their engine, which would take some halfass machining to do, or if they were run with the bolts loose.

any good exhaust shop will plane or resurface a header for like 20.00...had mine done...as for the 3.0:
there are tons of threads about em, search dont start a new one if you like the motor, they will hurt your feelings :ha_ha: no really, do a litle search on 3.0 or 3 point slow...or ask blackdog-hes a 3.0 expert
