Restoring a 1982 TREKKER

I recently bought a 1982 Trekker and I would like to restore it. I have done numerous google searches looking for parts. I understand that it is basically a 82 truck from the cab forward. It seems that every internet parts store all have the same parts. I would like to get some feedback on the best places to log onto or call for all those "hard to find" parts. Also I would love to have some type of book or computer download of exploded diagrams and parts with Toyota part numbers to go with them. Right from the beginning I need window regulators for both windows and all I can find on the internet is regulators for windows without vents. Well, my windows have vents. Does that mean that later model toyotas like 85,86,87, etc. have the same regulator as the 82 since they both have vented windows? ANY help or advice would be APPRECIATED!! any door from a 79-83 are the same, some have vents and some dont

I believe the regulators are different for vent and non vent doors

yea, what i meant was the regulators and doors are the same, so if he finds a good truck door he can use it on the trekker, the regulators ARE different between the vented and non vented

After looking on the net for a few hours I finally found some window regulators for vented windows. They were $14 each. Now I'm trying to find outside door handles, and a million other little items.

Toyota still has many parts for your 82, I just bought a regulator it was like $70 everything I have asked for they have gotten for me some cost way too much some seems reasonable, don't hurt to ask.

Yeah, I figured I would be using the local dealerships also. That is one reason I would love to find some type of manual with exploded views of all parts with Toyota part numbers to go with them. That way I could just call the local dealerships and just have them look up a part number. Today I ordered a manual called Toyota Pickup Manual, 1980-1982 by Robert Bentley. Maybe some of you out there know if this book has a listing of all parts. Are most dealerships able to get small parts like the vinyl door panels and window roll-up knobs etc? Also, when I got the truck there is no dash, just bare metal. Everything I have seen on the net is "dash pads" or "dash caps". Isn't that just cover ups for your existing dash? I almost ordered one thinking it was the entire dash. I have the front where the instruments are but not the top by the windshield. Anyway, THANKS for all the feedback!! Keep it coming!!

My local Toyota parts guy kinda hates me because I make him work, Dash pad I'd say yes,he could get me one for my 83 but it was over $400 black only. Check the classifieds here you can find some one parting out a 79-83 and can peice together a clean interior. I dont think the bently book is going to do a whole lot for you it may help but I doubt it has exploded views and part #'s. Any time I buy from Toyota the guy has to trace the part back through multiple changes so some part #'s may not be any good anyway even though they still make the part. Door panels make your own or find a local auto upholstry shop,door handles and window cranks maybe a later model will fit/work I am lucky I have a buddy that works at a Toy dealer so I get cost on most parts. Keep going on it, you have a rarity in the Toyota world it will be very cool when it's done.

Yeah, I think that is one reason Trekkers are so rare because who would of ever thought people would want to restore them and most have become rock crawlers. The biggest thing that surprised me is that the entire back end of the body is fiberglass not just the camper top.Being rare is about the best thing about a Trekker because I see a LOT of things that are inferior to the 84 4Runner. I actually think this project will be cheaper than rock crawling; less breakage!! I am actually trying to sell my "Rock Crawler" and concentrate on the Trekker.

Well your thinking outside the box here, but If you are having problems finding parts this early in the project, you should be warned that it wont get any easier. Good luck at restoring a truck whith absolutely no aftermaket support as far as panels and such.

Make a list of parts you're looking for. I have a lot of stuff laying around that I have saved that I don't really need. I have almost every part out of the doors, other than the exterior handles. Got a lot of stuff for that bodystyle truck.

I really need a dash. The to portion. Mine is just the bare metal. I assume it was brown. All of my interior is different shades of brown from very lite tan to dark brown. Passenger side door if it is in perfect shape as far as the sheet metal.
