I am making a front spring hanger to mount 1983 rear pickup springs up front. What bolts are going to be needed? Will the bolts for aftermarket springs work or are the stock spring bolts smaller? Will the Marlin spring bushings fit in the the stock rear springs so I can just get the 18mm bolts?

Are spacers going to be needed for the shackles?

yes  you will need spacers  for the bottom of the front shackles,

the bolts  should be the same  :dunno:

I did a little checking tonight. The factory bolts have the steel bolt bushing built in to them and cannot be reused since the one side of the shackle is one piece. So I guess I will need to find some pipe or bushing stock that fits snug in the spring bushing but is thin enough so I can still get a healthy sized bolt through.

Does this sound familiar for those of you with rears up front and a homemade hanger? If not how did you solve this? Thanks.

I always cut the bushing out and found a new bushing to put in.  then I use either a 18mm bolt or get a new 3/4" bolt and do a little modifying if the bushing doesn't like the 3/4 bolt
