Allright whats the difference between a Detroit softtrac & a Detroit trutrac locker? Details please

Soft trac??  What is that like a soft locker?  The soft locker is the std locker with a spring deal in it that keeps it from clicking and poping like the easy locker or std detroit will.  It is a true full locker, no differential until you are turning.

The tru trac is a helical gear driven limited slip which is supposed to bias power to the wheel that has more traction.  This isn't a full locker and many time will require some application of the brakes to evenly distribute power.  The tru trac is a good option for a front diff if you are running stock birfs and aren't doing much really hardcore wheeling.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

the soft locker is a regular detroit with new pre-load devices between the side gears (conical inserts dampen the engagement level) Supposed to be quieter than the original. Though I have a regular one and it's not that loud :dunno:

:psss:   just fyi  Mack trucks has used the same design of the truetrac  for over 50 years

also  the same used in 2 1/2  and 5 ton military trucks
