3 weeks ago our power steering pump went out on our samurai. The pump was from a 93 suzuki Sidekick.
Today we got a new pump from Hawk and it was a different size; same casing, but the return nipple was 7/16" instead of 1/2"... That problem was sovled with some teflon tape.
Now, the pump isn't putting out much power at all... I mean, it gives out about 50 lbs, but not near enough for our 33's...
Things we have done:
Turn the steering wheel and tightend/loosend the banjo bolt.
Took off the return line; both from the pump and the steering box, and both times it shot ATF 2 feet.
Filled the resevour.
We also put 2 washers in the pressure sensor bolt.
Are we gonna have to rebuild our old pump??
Story about the old pump... We were goofing around and I was gonna do a donut... Missed 2nd and reved it as I turned. About 6000 RPM, the steering went out and the engine died... tried to restart the engine and it squeeld. Then we took the belt off and ran it for 3 more days of rock crawling.
