Need Help Badly! Truck idles great and then just dies.
« on: Oct 19, 2006, 03:48:36 PM »
Alright I finally got everything put back together(electric fuel pump, regulator, and weber 32/36 DGEV carb) and when I start the truck it starts great, idles great for about 10-15 seconds and then dies like the key was turned off.  I called all kinds of tech places and no clue.

What I've done so far:
   checked power to coil
   checked and measured float
   adjusted mixture screw
   checked fuel pump power
I've got no smog stuff on the truck
I do however have a loose fuel return line but I tried plugging it and still nothing
   PCV valve OK
   Advance vacum OK
I can see fuel going through the filter
I tried with choke hooked up and disconected

Sounds like it might be starving for fuel.

I checked that and the pump is still getting power.  And when it dies it doesn't sputter or anything it is like the key is being turned off.  So I checked the coil and it is still getting power when the truck dies.  More suggestions.  I'll try it.

Had this exact same prob and it haunted me for close to a YEAR!

ended up being a vacuum leak on the base of the carb because it wasn't properly tightened down and warped it, couldn't even tell by looking at it that's how minimal it was..

I'd get one of those propane setups with an adjustable valve so you can run it through the engine bay checking for leaks.

R.I.P to my Papa, I miss you pops......

While the truck is running, spray some carb cleaner in the carburetor just before it dies and see if it keeps running.  If it keeps running, you have a fuel problem.  If it still dies, then you might have an electrical problem.
