:headscratch: in the 83 celica or 88 did they use a nut and bolt combo to hold the tranny on.  i'm trying to mate them up but i've got holes with no threads, which tells me i gotta use a nut and bolt, but i've got no bolts long enough to do that. man do i feel like a newb  :smack:

Different years and configurations of the same engine sometimes have the dowl pins in different holes.  Could that be what you're seeing?  I've never seen an r series engine/tranny held together with a nut and bolt, just studs in one or the other and bolts.  Any chance you can post up some pics of the problem areas?

only  the top 4 bolts  are the actual  holt tranny to motor,   bolts

those  supports  that come down from the side of the block  and kinda wrap around the oilpan  to connect to the bottom of the bellhousing, those  "might"  be  un threaded  ,  maybe,  but they should be a 10mm bolt that come thru from the front

the 4 upper bolts  should be 12mm  and come in from the tranny side

i just lost my camera last week or i would take some pics.  the two bottom holes by the clutch side and the bottom hole on the left side, non of those holes on the bell housing or the motor have threads.  The top two bolts are in they are 17 mm which is what i thought the bottoms ones should be but they dont fit

    ok  top 2  are 17mm head 12mm shaft,  lower bolt on engine block  is  just hidden by the clutch slave cylinder, it is a 17mm head 12mm shaft,   same on the oposite side

the bolts  below the block thru the block extenders go thru a 1/8 inch steel plate  then into the tranny .  these are 14mm head, 10mm shaft,  you "might"  have to use a nut  on these  but  its no big deal
