best electric fuel pump, need help.
« on: Oct 12, 2006, 07:27:52 AM »
I'm putting a weber 32/36 on my 84 and was looking for advice on what electric fuel pump to get and how hard is it to install.  Any advice would be great.  Thanks.

tell me more about pressure regulators.  How much, where to get one, does an 84 have one on it now, how hard to install?

I've got one between the mech fuel pump and the weber. Got it from autozone (Mr. Gasket regulator I think) I think it was like 15-20 bux.?? So far no problems on hills or bouncing around.

for crawling  they are good,  but  for HP  they will decrease fuel delivery at high rpms,   but thats just me :disturbed:

Ah, jes that does do the happening on mine, but it's designed for the crawling, and not the racing. Don't listen to me much, listen to 79C - he's da man

thanks for the info.  I just called a shop here and they sell a rotary style pump for 100 bucks and said they give a countinous 5 psi and are much quieter than the 40 dollar facet pump.  He recomended running a pressure regulator but I plan on using this truck for daily driving do you still think I need one? Do you think 100 buck is to much for a fuel pump?  Have you heard of a rotary style pump he said they use them on 911 porsches, I called a VW shop.

that's what all the shops I've called and posts I've read states.  Somewhere between 4-5 psi.  I just called autozone and they got a bosch pump for 65 dollars, what about these?  Are they any good?

That's what I thought.

I haven't heard anything about running the bosch in a yota for a weber. So Im not sure.  But when it comes to my VW I only buy bosch replacement parts.

I think for the weber 32/36 you need more like 2.5-3.5 psi... at least that what my weber manual said. Mines running about 3 right now, seems to be working good so far... here's the link to the regulator I got from summit.

How did you block off the port for the mech pump?

my 79  had a block off plate from the factory,   but  you can make one  easily  from some  3/16 or 1/4 inch plate

I may actually have one somewhere, but I see now. If my mech pump ever goes out I'll go electric :shocking:

Maybe something obvious is escaping me, but why would you run electric fuel pump if you have a spot on the head for a mechanical? I know the mechanical tends to pulsate more, hence the pressure regulator, but is there another reason to go electric?
