L50 throw out bearing......HELP
« on: Oct 11, 2006, 01:18:21 PM »
Getting a really weird noise now anytime I touch the clutch. At first it was pretty intermitant (sp) but now it is getting alot worse. I think that is is the throw out bearing, I get a high pitched whirrrrrring noise when I shift gears.
So... my question is: What am I risking if I put off changing this for a while?

well worst case,  the throwout bearing seizes to the bearing support, then rips  it off the clutch fork,  you hear horrible noise,   you try to press clutch,  fork goes into pressure plate  causing pressureplate to explode

but thats the worst that could happen  :aaa:

It might be time for you to upgrade to a more capable transmission.  Those L's aren't that great.

I would personally look for a W56.

I have a line on a w56...... but I am saving that for my top secret 4.3 project. :shhhh:
The reason that I don't really want to add that to my current set up is the added cost\time of the driveshaft lengths, crossmember changes, etc.
Teddy refers to Ted Kennedy who on july 19, 1969 drove his car, while drunk, off a bridge and into a pond. He got out and swam to shore while the girl that left the party with him was unabel to escape from the car and died.
So it might be dangerous to hunt with richard... it's deadly to ride with teddy.
