Silicon Valley to Surf City
« on: Sep 30, 2006, 03:08:24 PM »
I've officially packed up and left San Jose, my apartment jacked up my rent to $2000 a month and there was no way I was going to pay that. So I'm moved back in with the folks in Santa Cruz (Bonny Doon) and I'll be here until I can save up the green for a down payment on a house.

Anyways, just an update.

as i was moving out somebody else was moving in to a place next door and asked why i was moving, so I told him, he didn't look very happy after that.
Oh yeah, and it was a yearly lease.

Yeah, but yall be out of state folks.  I share (488/mo) the 1000 rent on a 2bed/2bath apartment in  the central valley.  Around here, that is actually considered cheap.  You can't really find a decent place for less than 13-15 right now.

I can't figure out all you cali folks...if they wanted me to transfer out there they would have to double my salary AT LEAST.  Screw scraping by to deal with $1500 rent.  What is it, you all scared to leave?  Too entrenched?  Worried if you move to a state where the government doesn't control your every move that something bad will happen to you?
Kommifornia just seem like a PIA to me.

You're forgetting one very important factory in your cost of living.  YOU LIVE IN KANSAS!  The only thing coming out of Kansas is I-70.  I grew up in Colorado so the flatlands would put me in a padded room.

Not to mention the weather out here in cali is awsome.  Ive been in the Mediterranean climate of central cali all of my life.  just wouldn't be happy anywhere else.  nice summers, mild winters.   next to the ocean, and just a few hours from the mountains.   I cant do flat lands either.

Well, I pay $400 a month for my little house, kinda like a guest house, with really cool landlords.  Ofcourse, since I had a good thing going it had to end, and they're selling the house.  The kicker is I found out my house isn't legal, so even if a new owner is cool with me staying it'll be a pita for them to arrange it.  If I want a place where I can park a couple trucks and a couple motorbikes I'm gonna be looking at atleast $700-800.

It gets crazy hot here and fairly cold.  It rains for months on end, then one day it's 90 and spring has sprung.  Heat doesn't bother me, but I'm a big sweater, and not being able to see what I'm working on cause there's a steady stream of sweat poorin in my eyes bothers me.  I love what the area has to offer, just wish it had a milder and more consistent climate.
RIP KYOTA
